Watch Lino Brocka’s Orapronobis Film Online

I was browsing the “Open Source Movies” section of archive.org when I discovered that Lino Brocka’s Orapronobis is listed in the collection.

An internationally acclaimed masterpiece, Orapronobis graphically shows the horrifying human rights violation committed by various vigilante groups in the Philippines during the Aquino administration. Due to its controversial content, the film never got playtime in public theaters in the Philippines at all.

Jose F. Lacaba wrote the script of the film. Lacaba is said to have claimed that his story is based on actual events in the country.  In the opening sequence of the film one reads: “All that you will see in this film is authentic. Only the names of people, political organizations and places have been changed.”

Phillip Salvador, Dina Bonnevie, Gina Alajar and Bembol Roco play the most important characters in this one-hour-and-a-half movie. Orapronobis was among the 33 movies included in the official selection category at the 42nd Cannes Film Festival in France.

This film is also available for download. Click here to go to the download page.

i’m a fan of archive.org’s collection, not just open source but everything under the moving images category. also, under music cat you get to download renditions of classical pieces in both mp3 and the opensource ogg vorbis format. Try the Archduke Trio by Beethoven. luv it!

it seems i commented only about where the video is located. hehe, so about the film, it’s just as shocking to realize that these vigilante issues will never die out; and it is interesting to note that there are movies today, among the orapronobis tradition which outline violations of human rights against the government. One of which is Kintay by Brillante Mendoza. If you ever get a chance, watch it not because of the Cannes award but because it presents recurring problems and issues in our government, no matter who our leader is. that’s about it, getting too serious *wink* :-)
