Christian Music: “Born Again” by Newsboys

There is a heavy, upbeat feel to this song that I particularly like. “Born Again” drives home the point that for us to experience new life, we need to give everything to God.

Newsboys is an Australian Christian rock band composed of Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein and Michael Tait. Since their formation in 1985, they have released fourteen albums. The song “Born Again” is from their 2010 album of the same name. Continue reading

HOMILIES

  • “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see” [Daily Scripture Readings & Meditations]
Jesus not only gave physical sight to the blind man, but spiritual vision as well. That is why Jesus proclaimed himself the “light of the world” (John 9:4). What is the significance of this miracle at the Pool of Siloam? It is certainly more than just a miraculous event. It is a “sign” that points to the source of the miraculous life-giving water and light which Jesus offers through the gift and work of the Holy Spirit (John 7:38) Read more…
  • Fourth Sunday of Lent [Catholic Doors]
While Jesus has come to judge those who reject the truth, many shall condemn themselves. For some falsely believing that they possess the light, have and continue to reject the revelation of God that was manifested through Jesus Christ. Read more…

Christian Music Tuesday: “Forgiven” by Sanctus Real

Our God is a forgiving Father. The whole purpose of giving us His only begotten Son is to facilitate forgiveness. The song “Forgiven” stresses that “I don’t have to carry the weight of who I’ve been, cause I’m forgiven.” God forgives us because we are a treasure in the arms of Christ.

Sanctus Real is a north American Christian rock band composed of Matt Hammitt (lead vocalist, guitar), Chris Rohman (lead guitar), Dan Gartley (bass), Pete Prevost (guitar), and Mark Graalman (drums). Since their formation in the year 1996, they have released eight albums (3 through an independent label and 5 through the Sparrow record label). The song “Forgiven” is from their latest album “Pieces of a Real Heart”.

Forgiven

by Sanctus Real

Well the past is playing with my head
And failure knocks me down again
I’m reminded of the wrong
That I have said and done
And that devil just wont let me forget

In this life
I know what I’ve been
But here in your arms
I know what I am

I’m forgiven
I’m forgiven
And I don’t have to carry
The weight of who I’ve been
Cause I’m forgiven

My mistakes are running through my mind
And I’ll relive my days, in the middle of the night
When I struggle with my pain, wrestle with my pride
Sometimes I feel alone, and I cry

In this life
I know what I’ve been
But here in your arms
I know what I am

When I don’t fit in and I don’t feel like I belong anywhere
When I don’t measure up to much in this life
Oh, I’m a treasure in the arms of Christ ‘cause

Christian Music Tuesday: “What Faith Can Do” by Kutless

Everybody hurts. Everybody falls and makes mistakes. People break promises. Your dreams can shatter. And the question is: who and what will give you the strength to rise from all your troubles?

God can heal your pain and forgive your sins. God is always faithful and will help you make your dreams come true. So never lose hope. Believe in miracles. Your prayers will be answered. And your heart will be renewed. That’s what faith can do.

Kutless is a north American Christian rock band composed of Jon Micah Sumrall, James Mead, Jeffrey Gilbert, Dave Luetkenhoelter, and Nick DePartee. Since their formation in the year 2000, they have released six albums. The song “What Faith Can Do” is from their latest album “It is Well”.

What Faith Can Do

by Kutless

Everybody falls sometimes
Gotta find the strength to rise
From the ashes and make a new beginning
Anyone can feel the ache
You think it’s more than you can take
But you’re stronger, stronger than you know
Don’t you give up now
The sun will soon be shining
You gotta face the clouds
To find the silver lining

I’ve seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn’t ever end
Even when the sky is falling
I’ve seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That’s what faith can do

It doesn’t matter what you’ve heard
Impossible is not a word
It’s just a reason for someone not to try
Everybody’s scared to death
When they decide to take that step
Out on the water
It’ll be alright
Life is so much more
Than what your eyes are seeing
You will find your way
If you keep believing

I’ve seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn’t ever end
Even when the sky is falling
I’ve seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That’s what faith can do

Overcome the odds
You don’t have a chance
(That’s what faith can do)
When the world says you can’t
It’ll tell you that you can!

I’ve seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn’t ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I’ve seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That’s what faith can do
That’s what faith can do!
Even if you fall sometimes
You will have the strength to rise

This week’s featured website is GodBeat. The website was founded by Jeff Myers, a convicted drug user and a former producer of online pornography who decided to dedicate his life to Christ during his court trial and eventual yearlong imprisonment. After leaving prison, he founded GodBeat “to replace the garbage he was putting into millions of homes a year, with God message, through music or any means necessary.” Jeff is now a changed man and GodBeat is growing fast as a home to hundreds of Christian music videos.
