Green Bible Highlights Environmental Themes in the Scriptures

The principal aim of “The Green Bible” is “to show that seeds of environmentalism were sown in the Garden of Eden”. The Green Bible is actually a new edition of the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) of the Holy Scipture and it is “printed in soy ink on recycled paper and bound in eco-friendly linen.” Green ink is used “to spotlight more than 1,000 passages extolling the goodness of creation and God’s charge to care for it.” Catholic scholars consider the NRSV as the most accurate translation of the scriptures. Searching for a Bible Blog Directory

I have a new favorite search engine. The best thing about it is that it is fast and uncluttered. Another good thing about this google-based tool is that it has no advertisement. It’s difficult to find a website that doesn’t sell you anything these days, so goosh is a real treasure. Yup, goosh is the name. It is short for google shell.

One of the phrases I typed in this evening was “bible blog directory”. And in less than a second, goosh gave me exactly what I was looking for – 1bible1.com, a bible blog directory. 1bible1 lists a good number of bloggers from different parts of the globe who write about the Bible and about Christianity in general. It is far from being a comprehensive directory, but it is a good place to start if you are looking for Bible bloggers.

A Search Engine For Your Favorite Bible Verses

Top Verses

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” This is one of my most favorite verses in the bible but just a while ago I was having a hard time locating it.

You must have experienced this too. You are looking for your favorite bible passage. You can remember the words but not the book nor the chapter and verse. And worse, Google and Yahoo give irrelevant and unsorted results to your searches.

It is good to know that there is a new search engine to do just this. It is called Top Verses and the team behind this engine “has analysed thousands of pages of teaching material to determine the most frequently referenced Bible verses.” This means that whenever you search for a keyword or a chapter and verse number you will get the most popular verses first.

Top Verses also provides a list of the most popular books and chapters based on the average number of times they are referenced. How long did it take me to find my most favorite bible verse? Three seconds. Flat. And by the way it’s John 13:35.

The Bible for Your PlayStation

A guy named Tim Ross has found yet another way to use a popular technology to make God’s Word available to people. This time its the Bible in Basic English for the PlayStation Portable (PSP).

Tim converted all the verses of the Bible into HTML to suit the PSP web browser. It can be downloaded for free here. The file size is 2.82 MB and it normally takes just about 7 minutes to download. Since it was made available three days ago, more than one thousand four hundred people had already downloaded the digital verses.

SMS Bible

In the beginning it was hand-written on papyrus, then Gutenberg printed it with movable type, later people browsed it on their pc, and now the Word of God comes to you in SMS format.

The Australian Bible Society has translated both the Old and New Testaments into text-talk so that “Church leaders, youth leaders, teachers and home group leaders can send verses of encouragement, reminders of bible study themes, reminders of Sunday sermons through mobile phones.” The Society has also made the entire 31,173 verses available for download free of charge.
