Saying mass, helping the needy, bringing hope to the heartbroken, inspiring others to be true to their commitments – these are but some of the many facets of a priest’s daily life shown in a video called “Fisher’s of Men”. The award-winning video is based on Jesus’ call to his first Apostles, “I will make you fishers of men” (Mk 1:17) .
What I particularly like about the 18-minute video is that it offers a very positive view of the priestly life. It shows that priesthood is a life of sacrifice and service and that priests are instruments for the change that the world needs today.
There are many very moving moments in the video. I was particularly touched when a priest said, “I want nothing else in life, but to bring people to Jesus Christ.” Indeed, the call to priesthood is a call not just to do something remarkable but to be someone remarkable.
The following are parts one and two of the video “Fisher’s of Men”:

A priest is all things to all men in the sight of God. He may be misquoted, mistaken and misunderstood, but he’ll always forgive – because he’s a mediator; a peacemaker, a go-between heaven and earth. It’s no wonder God loves him. He’s a man standing at an altar, clothed in Holy clothes, who while being aware of his own nothingness speaks to God for us and to us for God. And although his greatest act is to offer sacrifice, his most consoling one is to say to me, “Go in peace – Your sins are forgiven.”
