Pilgrimage

I will be doing a 10-day pilgrimage with a group of Filipinos from the Netherlands starting this Monday, 18th of July. Our first stop will be the Basilica of Our Lady of Lourdes (France). I will take a plane ride from Rome to Paris and then a train ride from Paris to Lourdes, where I will meet my companions. During our sojourn in Lourdes we will visit the Grotto, celebrate mass in the Basilica, walk in the footsteps of St. Bernadette and immerse ourselves at the Baths which claim thousands of healings.

Our second stop will be the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal. It will be my first time to be there. We will celebrate mass at the Chapel of Apparitions and probably visit the village of the three shepherd children, to whom the Virgin Mary appeared. Our third stop will be the Basilica of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Eversince I’ve read Paolo Coelho’s novels, I have always wanted to do the Cammino del Santiago. And next week I will have the chance to pay homage to Santiago (St. James) at his tomb. I am extremely excited. The word “Compostela” literally means “field of stars”. Our last stop will be Nevers, France to pay homage to St. Bernadette at her tomb. St. Bernadette once said, "I will not live one moment, unless I can spend it loving".

Dear friends, if you have any particular intention, please email it to stephencuyos at gmail dot com. I promise to print it, put it in an envelope and offer it in the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes as prayer offering. I will also include your intentions in my masses in the other shrines.

Gospel Acclamation of the Day: "Happy are they who have kept the word with a generous heart, and yield a harvest through perseverance." (Lk 8:15)

Wow ha! France Portugal and Spain, no less! I’ve always dreamed of walking along the ramps in the Rosary Basilica. It has fascinated me even before i became an architect- so ingeniously designed, giving justice to overall aesthetics and functionality. Oh my! No doubt Fr. Stephen, you are exceptionaly blessed!
