Linux Demand

There is demand for Linux and OpenSource. And there is proof for it. I’ve just visited Dell’s Ideastorm and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the most popular request is a pre-installed Linux on Dell machines. This is a real wow. As of this writing, 31416 visitors have promoted and voted for it.

The second most requested feature is a pre-installed OpenOffice with 16168 votes. The third most popular idea is the no extra software option. And the fourth? I wouldn’t have guessed it myself, but it sure made my day. With 10136 promoters, the fourth most favorite idea is a Linux laptop that works.

I’ve heard over and over again that the reason why big players like Dell, Toshiba and Sony don’t pre-install Linux on their machines is that there is no demand for it. Now it cannot be denied that whoever said that was totally wrong. I only hope that Dell decision makers will heed the public’s request.
