This morning I received an email from a certain Alex. He requested me to post his message on my blog. He hoped that through his letter “the pinoy migrants will also be inspired and will be guided in their reactions to what our country is experiencing today”. The following is the content of his email:

Amid the much publicized and FELT economic, political, security crises in the Philippines, it is indeed a grace from God to be able to see THE significant candle He has lighted in one of the darkest and most gloomy times in our history. Yes, I saw the light and this has restored my hope of a better Philippines for my children.
To me, the light came, surprisingly and unexpectedly, through the TV media. In tonight’s episode of Imbestigador: "Pinoy, tapat ka ba?" What raised my hope is the honesty of the Filipinos, given importance in the program. An oasis in an environment of negative and gloomy media we see, hear, and read about ourselves everyday.
What our country needs for deliverance is more than a change in leadership, administration and/or opposition side. What is needed is a consistent application of the value of honesty by the poorest of the poor to the wealthiest among us, by the powerless to the powerful in our society. Honesty that is taught to us no matter the religion. Let each of filipino follow the examples of the ivatans. They who till now pay for the food they take from an unmanned Honesty Coffee Shop and who don’t believe and practice “finder’s keepers”. Let us not only spend our energy and time whining about the corruption and dishonesty of others. Let us convict ourselves too and begin the painful process of restitution in each of us. It won’t require a long judiciary process, sacrificing days of rallying in the streets, or a costly snap election. It only requires a steadfast love for God and a strong self-discipline. AND it can be effected immediately.
Yes, father, I join your call for a unity in prayer for our country, for each of us and for our children. That we may choose honesty over easy and unrighteous solutions to our present woes in life. Let us believe in the promise of God when He said, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all things shall be added into you”. Let us do what is right in the eyes of God, not what is right in our imperfect human mind nor what is right in sight of others.
I enjoin you, with God’s grace let us all do our share to deliver this country. Let each Filipino be a guiding light to each other so darkness can be vanished by the miracle of the first lighted candle.

well…this is really something, we Filipinos, migrant or not, must ponder about.
Actually, honesty & self-discipline are two deep-rooted norms & values that our forefathers have instilled on us.But with the influence of outside cultures & the economic degradation have change people ideals & values that leads to rampant corruption in every day existence. This does not happened overnight and for us to try to change it or at least hope for a change must pray hard & try harder so that changes will be visible if only little by little. This little changes will serve us a GUIDING LIGHT for everyone & encourage them to take up their lighted candle too.
