I love watching good films. Thus when I got invited to be one of the judges for a film festival, I immediately replied with a resounding YES.
This morning I am leaving for Alba, Italy to be part of the ecumenical jury for the Infinity Film Festival. It is not just another film fest. The organizers’ objective is to explore the cinema, not merely as an aesthetic art form, but as creative elucidation of wo/man’s spiritual dimension. As its website declares, the Infinity Festival “provides an important opportunity to those who wish to single out, see, appreciate, and select productions dealing with a fundamentally ‘spiritual’ them”. The official selection includes:
André Valente (Portugal)
Chased by Dreams (India)
Evergreen (USA)
For the Living and the Dead (Finland)
Ice Men (Canada)
Onde (Italy)
Tarfaya (France/Morocco)
The Soup, One Morning (Japan)
Ultranova (Belgium/France)
Willenbrock (Germany)
There are no Hollywood-type movies to be shown. At salamat sa Diyos na wala! I will be watching about 4 to 7 films a day for one week (10-17 April 2005). It will be my first time to watch around 40 films in a span of just seven days. Yet I’m sure I will be having a great time there. I just hope that I can still squeeze in ample time to blog about my experiences during the festival.
