It was the biggest concert I have ever attended. Italian dailies reported that there were some seven hundred thousand people who took part in it. Although it began around three in the afternoon, I was there from seven in the evening until one thirty in the morning. Live8 was one experience that will stay fresh in my heart for many years.
Most Italians labeled the event as "una manifestazione che usa il linguaggio della musica”. My rough translation is “a demonstration (as in street demonstration) using the language of music”. My two favorite Italian singers were there – Elisa and Jovanotti – as well as all the other big names in the Italian music scene. Hundreds of artists sang and danced to different beats on stage and communicated exactly the same message – make poverty history! Now!
I’m sure the concert alone would not end world poverty but I’m quite certain that it sent waves of change throughout the world.

Cool! Very cool Fr. Stephen! Very good pictures too! ‘wished i was there.
Hi, Fr.Bobby, lucky for you,you are in the right place at the right time,so you were able to see a live LIVE 8 concert in Rome,i did’nt & i could’nt…but lucky me I was able to watch the LIVE 8 concerts from London,Berlin, Paris, Philadelphia & Las Vegas from my TV set.The other 4 other members of G8 such as Tokio,Russia & even Rome have their concerts too,but they are not shown on TV…i wonder why?
Anyway, all those concerts were being grace with big names on screen such as Brad Pitt & Will Smith & star singers such as Sakira,Destiny’s child,Celine Dion & of course the legendary Madonna. The presentation itself is very touching. You could really see that these people are really working hard together for a common goal….TO MAKE POVERTY HISTORY!
This is a very universal goal and it takes more to achieve than just having concerts like this but it is encouraging to know that people like them are beginning to look at the right way…giving hope for ordinary people like me that the world will be a better place to live in someday.
More power to you !
