Here is another addition to my growing photo collection of Italian micro cars. I spotted this two-door roadster parked a few meters from my residence in Via Asmara. It is the Fiat 500. Most Italians simply call it the Cinquecento (the Italian word for five hundred). It has a rear mounted engine driving the rear wheels and all four wheels have independent supensions. The most notable feature of this car was the air-cooling system of the engine, which was a first for the Fiat line of automobiles. The Cinquecento first hit the roads in 1957. Hi:

Just taking a chance here. Would you know how Filipinos such as myself would be able to import the Fiat 500? While I have gotten reports that you can do it in Subic, Fiat 500s brought here are not registered locally since they are shipped off to Japan immediately after these are converted to right hand drive. Anyway, thanks. I love the picture.
