Podcast Essentials

As a missionary and as a mass communications student, I consider podcasting as one of  today’s most effective tools in sharing personal reflections and in proclaiming God’s liberating message of joy, peace and love on a global scale.

I podcast thrice a week. Or at least I intend to. Each Monday, I podcast about life in Europe from the perspective of Filipino migrants. Wednesdays are dedicated to the Pope’s messages in his weekly general audience and other Christian themes. And on Fridays I talk about the week’s most talked-about topics, read some poems from other bloggers, and play some of the royalty-free Christian rock tunes I have downloaded from independent sites. Soon (that means when I have ample time) I will podcast my Sunday homilies.

For home-studio recording (actually it’s just my bedroom with lots of wires) I use a Behringer B-1 microphone connected to a Behringer Eurorack UB1204 Pro which is in turn connected to a Toshiba Satellite laptop. When I am outside I use a Sony MZ-NH700 Hi-MD recorder and a Sony MS908 electret condenser microphone. With my linux box I use Audacity for audio editing. And with my XP computer I use Adobe Audition (only because Adobe Audition does not run on linux yet). For my background tracks I use only royalty free music. All my MP3s have the following specs: 128Kbps, 44100Hz sample rate and 16 CBR resolution.

Audio files eat a lot of space, so to keep me from losing important data I employ a 160Gb external TEAC harddrive. My blog is hosted by plogHost, the Philippine’s best and most affordable webhosting provider.  I submit all my podcasts to the Internet Archive under the Creative Commons license. I use iPodder to subscribe and download feeds from other podcasters and store them in my 20Gb iPod.

Gospel Acclamation of the Day: "May all be one as you are, Father, and I in you; let the world believe that you sent me, says the Lord." (Jn 17:21)

it’s very nice of you to share your technical know-how to your readers…but if you ask me,honestly i would say, i don’t care how you do it,as long as you keep on doing it…LONG LIVE to your podcasting…
but then again, you talk about Gigabytes..that is something i understand.I see that you have an ample of it,but isn’t it that the more readers you have and the more downloads were being made, the more gigabytes consumed? would it mean that you have less and less of it to work with?

Thanks for the tech stuff. Actually, I need something even more basic. I think podcasting is a great way to get the message out there and when I find the true podcasting for dummies info, I’ll get started..
