Awarding Ceremony & Gala Dinner

The awarding of festival prizes was held at 8:30 this evening. The Signis Award for best film in the Infinity Film Festival went to Catarina Ruivo’s debut film “Andrè Valente”. During the ceremony I was given the honor to hand out the award.

“AndrĂ© Valente” is a film about an eight-year old Portuguese boy who has experienced quite a number of excruciating separations – first from his father Joao, then from his girl friend Susanna, and from his Russian friend Nicolai. At some point, AndrĂ© also became emotionally estranged from his mother when she began a clandestine relationship with a married man.  In carefully crafted scenes, Catarina Ruivo, the young director of this debut film,  innovatively portrayed human fragility in the face of marital unfaithfulness and painful goodbyes. Yet it has also shown us the courage of a vulnerable child and his mother to find strength and love in each other in order for them to go in life.  In the end, the film tells us that some friendships come and go but the love between mother and child will always endure no matter what.

After the awarding ceremonies we had a gala dinner.

The red wine served was a Roero 2003 and the vino bianco was an Arneis 2003. The appetizer was Tagliata di Filleto al Gorgonzola.

As primo piatto we had Risotto Alle Punte di Asparagi. The main course was Brasato Al Barolo.

The dessert was Sfogliata di Fragole. And afterwards we each had a cup of espresso.

What really made the evening memorable was the presence of the people who became my friends – Silvia and Paolo. Silvia was in charge of the accommodations, among other loads of things. Paolo was the president of the Infinity Film Festival.

Seated next to me at the dinner table was Arunas Stoskus, a Lithuanian film producer. And the last pic just shows how happy I was during the festival.
